There’s a certain feeling in the air right now — that soft, in-between season when spring still clings to the wattle, but the scent of Christmas is just beginning to drift in. ✨
In the studio, the first signs of The Overproof Press Christmas Collection are starting to take shape: sketches, paper trimmings, and half-scribbled notes that will soon reveal the 2026 Victorian Vistas Calendar and its companion Explore Victoria Zine. It’s that gentle kind of busy — the sort that feels more like brewing than rushing. 🌿
This week over on Instagram, I asked whether you’d rather escape to the coast or the country for spring. The votes were pretty evenly split (no surprises there — we Victorians are spoiled for choice). I’ve spent my own spring nestled into Panton Hill, house-sitting for Sarah and Matt at their beautiful Airbnb retreat. It’s surrounded by gum trees, kookaburras, and the kind of golden light that makes you want to pull out a sketchbook and stay awhile.
Before you plan your own weekend escape, I thought I’d share a few simple things I always do before heading away — whether it’s a coastal break or a countryside hideaway.
5 things to prep at home before heading off for a spring escape:
- Leave your space calm. There’s nothing better than coming home to a tidy house — even just fresh sheets and dishes done.
- Pack a ‘creative bag’. Sketchbook, pencils, your favourite playlist or travel journal — something small that helps you slow down.
- Plan one local adventure, and leave one day unplanned. The balance between discovery and rest is where the magic happens.
- Bring a touch of home. A travel mug, favourite tea, or candle can make even a short trip feel grounding.
- Print a map or note a few local makers to visit. You’ll find something you’d never stumble upon in a Google search if you speak with a local about this when you arrive!
Next week, I’ll be sharing a little more about the inspiration behind the 2026 Victorian Vistas Calendar — and how it ties into a bigger idea I’ve been sketching out about creative seasonal living in Victoria.
Until then, may your weekend be slow, your mornings bright, and your bag half-packed for an adventure. ✨
See you next week!
